Chocolate Turtle Cookies

chocolate turtle cookies

Over 100 years ago in 1918, the delicious turtle candy was developed by Johnson's Candy Company. A salesman placed a candy made from caramel and pecans into the new "dipping" equipment. The resulting candy looked like a turtle, thus the candy was born.

As you may have figured out I like to make cookie versions of treats. This is my version of a turtle. The base cookie is a soft chocolate with chocolate chips and caramel bits. Before baking, each dough ball is rolled in pecan pieces to create a crunchy crust. Once cooled each cookie is drizzled with melted caramel. Even when cooled to room temperature the caramel is still soft and chewy. This cookie can solve virtually any craving: chocolate, chewy, soft, crunchy, sweet, and salty. It's definitely my new favorite cookie.
